A Consuming Passion

Synopsis:

A single film made by Kate Jones-Davies that reveals the horrors behind eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.

14 year old James Ridgway has a major problem. He was bullied at school because he was fat and he just stopped eating. He too was painfully thin when he was admitted to the unit and was still refusing food. He had to be held down and force fed. After 10 months, he still finds it terribly difficult to eat.

Orchard Lodge near Taunton in Somerset, houses one of only a few special units in the UK which treats young people with serious eating disorders. This harrowing film made by Kate Jones-Davies focuses on three young people who have passed through its care. James (above), 16 year old Fay Sizer from Minehead who has been allowed to go home on license, she's finding that living in the big wide world is very difficult and the unit may have to readmit her. Sue Kendall is 18, and was admitted weighing just 5 stone, she has gained weight and is hoping that she will be allowed to go home soon.

Anorexia Nervosa can kill and these three young people nearly died. They tell their stories with brutal honesty.
