The film starts at Tonyrefail Station, when her second son Ceri returns from a spell in prison and he shows her every sign of wanting to carry on exactly as he did before. Ceri used to steal from Lorraine's freezer to get stuff to sell so that he could feed his drug habit. Lorraine is very worried that he will go back to his old ways. Lorraine's youngest son Gareth is also serving a sentence in a young offender's institution. However as filming proceeded, tragedy was to strike Lorraine's family when her sister Marilyn's son, Andrew dies of a drug overdose. Then a few days later Lorraine's best friend Karen lost her son Byron She had found him hanging from the stair banister in the hall. In spite of these tragedies, the women of Tonyrefail were determined to fight on in order that other people's sons didn't go the way of their own. Directed by Kate Jones-Davies, this harrowing film reveals the horrors not just of the terrible effects of drug addiction, but also the desperation felt by so many people in the industrial decay of what once was a close and thriving community. |
